Here is a view of the advert the Conservative Government of Ontario, Canada, ran during the World Series. Ron Reagan was a vocal supporter of Free Trade. He had a degree in Economics, and he had been the Governor of California, before he became President of the USA, in 1980. He was a Conservative, and he was an honourable and wise fellow who had experience in practical political-economy. He told the truth, and made the world a better place.

President Ronald Reagan of the USA was wise Conservative and a big supporter of Free Trade. This is the truth.

Play!

Oct. 25, 2025
USA President Ronald Reagan spoke the truth when he temporarily imposed tariffs on Japan. All the words, and the beliefs that President Reagan expressed often, in his support of free-trade, are accurate. I know. I remember this. Donald Trump is lying when he attempts to mislead people, and suggest that Reagan supported tariffs. Reagan did not support tariffs. Reagan supported free-trade, and he was a true and vocal supporter of free-trade, so that American businesses and American consumers could get the lowest prices for products, and have the greatest global business opportunities. I remember this vividly. When Reagan used tariffs, it was to induce trading partners to return to a rational free-trade regime of fair and open competition. And Reagan was successful.

The words spoken are exactly Ronald Reagan's words, and explicitly describe exactly what his views on tariffs were. President Reagan was a strong, and vocal supporter of free-trade, and only imposed tariffs to encourage trading-partners (Japan) to return to fair and free trade. President Reagan supported free-trade. I remember. I was there, and I saw the support. It was real.

Donald Trump is just lying. Again.

And what is amazing, is that Trump, in his petulance and ignorance, has just proved that his tariffs are not something that he has imposed to deal with an emergency. They are nothing more than personal, political strategic actions. And as such, since these imposed tariffs are not enacted because of any emergency, then they are - by black-letter law, let's be very clear - illegal. Donald Trump as acting USA President, explicitly does not have consitutional authority to just impose tariffs at his personal whim.

Now, he has just done this - imposing an additional 10% tariff on Canada, because he does not like that the Ontario Government ran a Ronald Reagan-inspired pro-free-trade advertisement.

Mr. Trump has just proved his tariffs are NOT imposed due to any emergency. His tariffs are an illegal, unconstitutional political stunt.

The Supreme Court of the USA, now has no choice, but to declare the "Trump Tariffs" are illegal and clearly, without any doubt, unconstitutional.

Only the USA Congress has the authority to impose such sweeping and economically consequential tariffs. There can now be no doubt about what has happened. Trump has not just exceeded his authority - he has absolutely and without question, acted in an unlawful manner. And his unlawful, unconstitutional actions, have now, and will in the future, harm the United States of America.

This is exactly the kind of thing that the Founders of the United States worried about, and it is why they designed the USA Constitution and it's law-making process and it's courts as they did.

It is now up to the USA Supreme Court to enforce the wise USA Constitution, and the laws of the USA, and declare the Donald Trump Tariffs as illegal. As such, this President has acted in a serious and profoundly unlawful manner, and as an agent acting in an illegal manner, he may be removed. His impeachment could well follow from all this.
